SDI supports the North Alabama Character Foundation Summit; “Our Character Matters”

Steve Smith, VP for Operations for SDI, assisted the North Alabama Character Foundation (NACF) with its inaugural 2016 Character Summit. Steve’s small group, WE>ME, from the Huntsville/Madison County Leadership Flagship Class 29, volunteered to assist the NACF Character Summit to help them with the event.

charactermattersThe vision of the NACF is for North Alabama to be a nationally recognized community of character.  To help meet this goal, the NACF, in cooperation with a project team of Huntsville-Madison County Leadership, conducted the first annual North Alabama Community of Character Summit (NACCS) February 6, 2016 on the Columbia High School campus. The objectives of the summit were to educate and inform the youth of North Alabama by:

Educating attendees in elements of character development;

Building greater awareness of the Character Foundation of North Alabama; and

Generating interest in volunteering to serve the endeavor.

The Summit was a half-day conference with a keynote speaker, Judge Sybil Cleveland, and breakout sessions for various age groups. Students had the opportunity to enter “Character Word” essays to compete for scholarships ranging from $2,500 to $5,000.
