SDI employees raise funds to help fight heart disease and stroke.

SDI also served as a sponsor for the 2017 Huntsville Heart Walk in support of the American Heart Association.

SDI employees recently joined hundreds of other walkers for the 2017 Huntsville Heart Walk in downtown Huntsville, Alabama. The Heart Walk is the American Heart Association’s premiere event for raising funds to save lives from this country’s No. 1 and No. 5 killers – heart disease and stroke. Designed to promote physical activity and heart-healthy living, the Heart Walk creates an environment that’s fun and rewarding for the entire family.

Support for the American Heart Association is a personal concern for SDI President Steve Smith and CEO Pam White. Mr. Smith stated, “Not only does heart disease run in my family, I had my own personal scare in 2006, but because of the advances in medical science through the efforts of organizations like the American Heart Association, I’m heart healthy today and hope to continue to be that way.” Because of his personal history with heart disease, Mr. Smith served on this year’s Executive Leadership Team and set a goal for employee participation and corporate support for the event.

While SDI corporate sponsored the Heart Walk, a team of 16 SDI employees participated in individual fundraising efforts. They surpassed their goal of $5,000, raising over $6,600 for the cause. Overall, the 2017 Huntsville Heart Walk met and exceeded the area-wide goal by raising over $300,000 to provide funding for research, education, and prevention of heart disease and stroke. Thanks to all walkers, donors, and volunteers who have accepted this year’s challenge.
